This ' Treasure Hunt ' will give you something worth more than gold or jewels. You (and Dragon ) get a view of a fun and loving relationship, a tale as handy as a dragon tail, and a " The End " which is a prefect lead in for more .
This is a quick light story ; Amusing and compelling . It's the perfect length for a coffee break or bus ride to work.
Shira Glassman's "Treasure Hunt," featured in Torquere's Twisted Fables anthology, comes highly recommended if you like the idea of two treasure hunters unwittingly performing some dominance & submission for a voyeuristic dragon.
And believe me.
I do.
"Treasure Hunt" begins when the Empress sends two of her Imperial guards, Aleksei and Vasily, to steal treasure from a cave where a dragon supposedly lives. They don't necessarily believe that there really is a dragon...
...but this doesn't matter to the dragon, from whose extremely sassy point-of-view the entire story is told. The dragon, napping atop his piles of, indeed, treasure, wakes to find a couple of humans in his cave, and settles back to see what they'll do.
What they do is take a break for lunch, vodka, and sex. Humans, as the dragon puts it, are fascinating.
THE DRAGON
--is unexpectedly relateable! Without giving away any spoilers, the dragon's only friend is the sorceress from whom he is receiving "transition magic." YOU READ THAT RIGHT. He's a desperately lonely trans dragon obsessed with shiny things, and every bit of the narrative is colored by both his fantastic sense of humor and his very human desires.
THE TREASURE HUNTERS
--in the fashion of Shira Glassman's previous diverse characters, Vasily is described in a way that might not be conventionally attractive (but certainly gets the attention of Aleksei and the dragon!). He's, shall we say, a scruffy-bearded larger man, while Aleksei is his more clean-shaven, smaller companion. Humans can be fun to look at, too.
THE SEX
--Glassman writes light D&s in, again, a relateable, loving way, using characters for whom pretense isn't feasible. The D&s aspect of their relationship is more a personality thing, a lifestyle thing, than simply a sexual thing, and it's well-written and believable. Just to be completely frank sex in a cave as observed by a dragon should not be this hot. Really. And yet it is.
THE ACTUAL TREASURE
--Again, no spoilers, but this is Shira Glassman doing what she does best concocting believable and adorable fairy tales with surprise endings. Maybe the true treasure is...friendship?
OVERALL
--This was a very sweet, very erotic read with some highly unusual elements, written in a hilarious and entirely unique style. I had fun reading it, and I definitely recommend it!
